Students walking past the Main Lounge were drawn in by the fun music and promises of casino games and prizes last Thursday evening. The Main Lounge of the University Center was virtually unrecognizable as the Student Activities Board transformed the space into a near-genuine Atlantic City Casino. The students in attendance walked into the foyer and were handed wads of fake cash and wished good luck! SAB’s Casino Night had the essentials: Texas Hold ‘Em, Craps, Black Jack, and Roulette. Each table had a student volunteer as a dealer.
The event, which was brought to Seton Hall three years ago, was brought back this year by SAB’s Payton Seda. The event had received some buzz on the organization’s twitter page beforehand, as well as through word of mouth. A big draw for students were the raffle prizes that could be won, including a Keurig, various gift cards, Apple AirPods, and more.
Zachary Cooney, a student in attendance, stated, “It was a fun night to be with friends and play entertaining games. If you didn’t know how to play, it didn’t matter because the dealers showed you how.” Even though he did not win any prizes, he was happy to play the games and have fun.

Walking through the event, students were talking to each other, playing games, and overall, having fun. The Student Activities Board should consider bringing more events of this nature to campus, as the student body seemed to really enjoy this event.
DISCLAIMER: My experience with crowdsourcing: Crowdsourcing is definitely difficult when you do not have a strong social media following. This social media task was a challenge since I do not have a strong social media presence on my new class twitter account yet, and even my personal twitter is lacking a bit. I did utilize both for this project, but still ended up needing to reach out to people in order to get more results.
Initially, to search for a story topic I looked at comments and tweets on the Student Activities Board social media accounts. I looked at posts concerning upcoming events and found two that struck me. On the SAB instagram account, there was a giveaway for two free tickets for their travel trip to Washington D.C. this month. The post had gotten a lot of attention due to the giveaway, which led me to believe that a lot of people were interested. Also, SAB had tweeted several times about Casino Night which got some attention, and I had heard a bunch of people talking about this event. After tweeting out a poll concerning both ideas, I got the same results for both, so I decided to focus on Casino Night, since the event was happening sooner.
